A lively yellow infusion of Sencha green tea leaves and jasmine blossoms produces a bright, sweet and savoury aroma that quickly transforms into a smooth, grassy flavour. This is the highest grade of Japanese green tea. Emerald green, needle-like leaves expand when they come into contact with hot water.
As well as helping with weight loss, Sencha tea is also believed to alleviate a number of health problems. There is research to suggest that it can inhibit the growth of cancerous cells, lower cholesterol levels and improve the ratio of good to bad cholesterol. Not only this, evidence shows that this tea can help reduce the risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease, as well as treat any part of the immune system that has become impaired. You might even be interested to know that it is believed Sencha can help prevent tooth decay.
Hint: For the best brew, place one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per cup into a teapot with the water at 170 degrees C. Leave for two minutes for a perfect brew every time.
This tea is best served hot with a meal or enjoyed on its own. Sugar and honey can also be added for extra sweetness.
